2027 Hyundai Elantra: What We Know So Far and What You Can Buy Now
Hyundai's compact sedan is being redesigned for 2027, and while you wait for it, Kunes Hyundai of Sycamore has the current Elantra on the lot.
The 2027 Hyundai Elantra is an all-new eighth-generation compact sedan with a bolder design, a larger body, and a new interior. It is on sale in South Korea, where it is called the Avante, with exports to follow, but Hyundai has not announced U.S. pricing, trims, or an on-sale date. (This page covers what Hyundai had confirmed as of mid-October 2026, and we will update it as more details arrive.) Here is what is changing, what carries over, and what you can buy today.
What Is Changing on the 2027 Hyundai Elantra
The biggest change is the design. In South Korea, the new Elantra grows to about 187.6 inches long on a 108.3-inch wheelbase, with sharper styling than the current car. U.S. dimensions have not been confirmed.
Inside, the Korean-market car has a slim digital instrument cluster across the top of the dashboard and a large touchscreen of 12.9 or 14.6 inches, running Hyundai's new Pleos software.
What Stays the Same
The Elantra remains Hyundai's compact sedan, and the Korean-market car keeps a gas engine and a hybrid. Hyundai has not confirmed the U.S. engines or trims, or whether the N Line returns.
2027 Hyundai Elantra Size and Design
The redesigned Elantra grows in nearly every direction. Based on the South Korean specifications, it is about 187.6 inches long (roughly 2 inches longer than the current car), about 73 inches wide, and about 56 inches tall, on a 108.3-inch wheelbase that is about an inch longer. Hyundai also added about an inch of rear legroom. U.S. dimensions have not been confirmed.
The styling follows Hyundai's Art of Steel design language. Slim LED running lights sit high on the front end while the main headlights move down into the bumper intakes, a small extra window sits near the rear roof pillar, and the trunk lid ends in a ducktail-style lip. The Korean-market car rides on 18-inch five-spoke wheels.
2027 Hyundai Elantra Interior and Technology
The cabin is a clean break from the current car. The traditional gauge cluster is replaced by a slim digital display near the base of the windshield, and a much larger central touchscreen handles most vehicle functions. In South Korea, that touchscreen is 12.9 inches on the standard car and 14.6 inches on higher trims, and it runs Hyundai's new Pleos Connect infotainment system with its Gleo AI features. Hyundai has not said which of these features will reach the U.S. Elantra, or on which trims.
2027 Hyundai Elantra Powertrains in South Korea
The Korean-market Elantra offers two powertrains at launch. The gas model uses a 2.0L four-cylinder rated at 147 horsepower, the same output as the current U.S. gas Elantra. The hybrid pairs a more efficient 1.6L engine with a stronger electric motor and a larger battery for 155 combined horsepower, up from 139 in the 2026 U.S. Elantra Hybrid, and it adds updated regenerative braking and route-based efficiency controls.
Hyundai has not announced U.S. powertrains, and it has not said whether the sporty N Line and the track-focused Elantra N will return.
2027 Hyundai Elantra Safety and Driver Assistance
The Korean-market Elantra comes with 10 airbags and a broad driver-assistance suite that includes navigation-based Smart Cruise Control 2, Memory Reversing Assist, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and Pedal Misuse Safety Assist. U.S. safety equipment has not been confirmed. The current Elantra comes with Hyundai SmartSense, and NHTSA gave the 2026 Elantra and Elantra Hybrid five stars.
The 2026 Elantra: The Last Model of the Current Generation
The 2026 model is the final year of the current Elantra, with only light updates: a new SEL Sport Premium trim, rear USB-C charging ports standard on gas models, and unchanged engines. The gas models make 147 horsepower, the hybrids make 139, and the N Line makes 201. The Elantra Blue Hybrid is rated at an EPA-estimated 54 mpg combined.
2026 vs. 2027 Hyundai Elantra at a Glance
The 2026 Elantra offers gas models with 147 horsepower, hybrids with 139 horsepower, and an N Line with 201 horsepower, in SE, SEL Sport, SEL Sport Premium, Limited, and N Line trims, plus Blue, SEL Sport, and Limited hybrids. The 2027 Elantra is larger, has a new interior with a much larger touchscreen, and, in South Korea, a 155-horsepower hybrid. Trims, U.S. engines, features, and pricing for the 2027 model have not been announced.
2027 Hyundai Elantra Price and Release Date
Hyundai has not announced U.S. pricing for the 2027 Elantra. Redesigned models often cost more than the vehicles they replace, but Hyundai has not said what it will charge. In the meantime, the current Elantra is on sale, and we can quote current pricing and incentives on any 2026 Elantra on our lots.
